Alicia Keys Reinvents “City of Gods”

Singer-songwriter Alicia Keys released a new version of her latest single, “City of Gods.” The new statement, titled “City of Gods (Part II)” offers a bigger side of Alicia and lets her vocals shine throughout the entire song.

Alicia Gives “City of Gods” a New Touch

Two months ago, Alicia joined forces with Fivio Foreign and Kanye West for the new single “City of Gods,” which gave us a taste of R&B, hip hop, and rap all in one place. Now, Alicia decided to give the song a new touch by making it a solo, and thus, letting her classic R&B mark radiate.

“City of Gods (Part II)” is an entirely R&B track in which Alicia sings about her love of New York City. “New York City, please go easy on me tonight (I’m begging you). New York City, please go easy on this heart of mine. ‘Cause I’m losing my lover to the arms of another. New York City, please go easy on me,” she sings in the chorus.

She Produced the New Instrumentals All by Herself!

It’s important to mention that Alicia produced the instrumentals for the new “City of Gods” version entirely by herself! The track is actually the first to arrive since the singer decided to part ways with her old label. But, just in December, she shared her last album to arrive within that label, KEYS. The album includes a staggering total of 26 songs!

“I’m so excited because KEYS is actually the last album I have on a major label,” she said during a Twitter Spaces chat in December, per Genius. Jay-Z was also a part of the conversation and congratulated her on her independence. “The fact that you were signed to a label for 20 years is an amazing thing in itself, but the fact that you were able to complete your contract, not many people have been afforded that,” he said.

This June, Keys will kick off her “Alicia The World Tour” in the UK, before heading over to Europe and the United States. You can find all dates and tickets to her shows here.
