Maroon 5 & Cardi B’s “Girls Like You” Goes Diamond

Maroon 5 and Cardi B’s 2018 hit “Girls Like You” just got certified diamond by the RIAA, meaning that the song has sold 10 million copies in the United States.

This is Maroon 5 & Cardi B’s Second Diamond Certification

Alongside being the first female rapper to achieve a double-diamond certification; she’s the only Latina with multiple diamond-certified tracks after her breakout single “Bodak Yellow” earned the certification in 2017. Camila Cabello and Christina Aguilera are the only other Latinas with a diamond-certified song.

“Wow, I got two Diamond records! Thank you so much Maroon 5 for including me on this song. This is the song I cater to my daughter every time I perform it. I’m forever grateful,” Cardi wrote in a Twitter post, referring to her daughter Kulture Kiari. On her Instagram story, she added, “My life really be a dream… Thank you Maroon 5.”

This is the second time Maroon 5 went diamond, as “Moves Like Jagger” was their first record to achieve this big certification. The band also celebrated the accomplishment on their Instagram. “Girls Like You ft. Cardi B has been RIAA certified 10x Multi-Platinum! Thank you all for our second Diamond single!”

How “Girls Like You” Went Viral

Upon release in 2019, Maroon 5’s smash hit featuring Cardi B caught a lot of attention for its cameo-filled nature; featuring the likes of Camila Cabello, Ellen DeGeneres, Gal Gadot, Jennifer Lopez, Behati Prinsloo, and more. The song reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the video got just as popular. In less than 10 months, the music video surpassed 2 billion YouTube views. The video now has a staggering 3.1 billion views.

Adam Levine shared with Variety at the time why they thought that having Cardi B in the song was important. “She was in the honeymoon period of her moment. It was just beginning to be that female artist that everybody was talking about. I thought it was an important thing for her to be involved. I knew she would have an interesting take on what was being said; and she would do it in a way that you wouldn’t necessarily have thought of.”
