The Greeting Committee: Dance, Cry, and Fall In Love

The Greeting Committee and groovy music to cry too

Formed by lead singer Addie Sartino, guitarist Brandon Yangmi, bassist Pierce Turcotte, and drummer Justin Fraser, The Greeting Committee is an American band from Kansas City, Missouri.  Their indie-rock take on music shows similarities to acts like Snail Mail and Hippo Campus.   When describing the group Sartino says, “Our goal collectively is to make people feel less alone through our music, and to have them dance while they cry.”  Indeed, the group’s bright and easy-going sound is heartfelt, but with a dash of groove.Dandelion Album Cover

Signed to Harvest Records, The Greeting Committee put out their first full-length project in 2018 titled This Is It.  The record spawned hits like the jazzy You’ve Got Me and the strident More.  Then, last year The Greeting Committee released their sophomore album Dandelion under Harvest Records.  The record shows The Greeting Committee’s maturity and growth from their last project.  When explaining the meaning behind the name of the album Sartino says, “Dandelions are these weeds, but a lot of the time you look at them like flowers. The “eh” flowers. I like that metaphor for the whole feeling throughout the album.”

Dandelion shows the groups growth

Together with co-producer Jennifer Decilveo, (MARINA, FLETCHER) the group tapped into vulnerable more expressive topics on Dandelion.  Lead singer Sartino says, “It was so undeniable that that’s where I was in my personal life” when explaining the rawness throughout the album.

We also can’t forget the group’s music videos.  Videos like the outlandish sumo-wrestling adventure that is the Make Out music video, and the colorful animation (Kezia) for the Float Away video are great representations of the group.  They find a way to not take themselves too seriously in turn showing the sincerity of their art.

See them on tour!
