Diamond-certified singer-songwriter Austin Post famously known by his stage name Post Malone released his new single “Overdrive” on Friday. The mid-tempo pop ballad is a follow-up to singles “Chemical” and “Mourning” further teasing the release of his fifth studio album Austin, out July 28.
“Overdrive” Reveals A Softer Side From Post
“Overdrive” captures Post Malone in a somber and exhaustive state. He is going nonstop but is lacking drive and passion. “I spend my nights on overdrive / I live my life so uninspired / There ain’t no angels in this world / So I live my life on overdrive.” His low self esteem and mood leads him to look for outer validation. The “Circles” vocalist writes about how deep his love goes over acoustic guitars and a mellow soft-rock groove. He gives a strong vocal performance for “Overdrive” while pouring his heart out to someone. Malone is willing to go to great lengths for his lovers validation and acceptance. For example, he would endure the painful process of removing his tattoos, which cover him head to toe. After two short verses we hear a whistle break before singing the bridge.
Post Malone shares via social platforms:
“Hi guys, my new record Overdrive is out now, and it contains a pretty juicy whistle segment performed by Squilliam Fancyson and I hope you guys really like it”
“Overdrive” is quick with not a whole lot of lyrics but Posty’s vulnerability is apparent.
Austin The Album Out July 28
Furthermore, the new album Austin will likely be Malone’s most personal body of work thus far. Recently, the singer revealed the album will have no features, which is a first for him. In May he announced the release of his fifth studio album sharing:
“Proud to announce my new album titled “Austin” dropping on July 28th. This whole deal has been one of the most challenging, rewarding, and exciting records I’ve worked on. i feel it captures who i am as a man and as an artist in this moment. thank y’all so much for your patience, and thank you for being there with me in my hardest times. i love y’all so much, and am ready to fucking party with y’all. cheers, and keep spreading love”
Additionally, the guitar on “Overdrive” and on the project is entirely played by the Grammy-nominated musician.
