Inside the Track

“Ceilings” is an incredibly emotional song. Lizzy McAlpine writes of a seemingly perfect love. However, she hints at some aspect of this relationship that isn’t quite right. In the last verse of the song, she reveals that the love isn’t real—it’s been in her head the entire time. She uses “ceilings” to express missing a relationship and the companionship and intimacy that comes with it. The song has become viral on TikTok, specifically this verse: “But it’s not real And you don’t exist And I can’t recall the last time I was kissed It hits me in the car And it feels like the end of a movie I’ve seen before Before” McAlpine performed “ceilings” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon at the beginning of March. This was a few weeks after her music video for the song came out. Check out both the performance and the music video below: And that’s a wrap!
