Jungle Shoots Up The Charts With ‘Back On 74’

It’s a story we’re all familiar with by now—”this artist’s album came out months ago, but it’s trending now?” Retro-funk outfit Jungle is the latest to shift into that canon. Though they’ve had break-out hits before, the virality that their latest big single taps into just feels different, seeping into pop culture in a way that arguably none of their songs have to date.

“Back On 74” Earns Jungle Prime Placement On Our Chart

If you weren’t clued into the Australian outfit’s retro tendencies before, maybe this single’s biggest draw being its music video will paint the picture. Just at first glance, disco-era bodysuits and sequins tip off its throwback inspirations, taking place in what appears to be a Fame-style musical set. Tying the whole thing together, scores of dancers swap between floaty and jaunted choreo moves, both infectious in their sheer energy and solitary in their free-wheeling spirit.

This brings us to the major star (and brand) co-sign that took this song the extra mile. Tapping into their own archival roots, GAP tabbed the song for their latest major ad spot, and enlisted none other than Tyla to do so. Arguably the brightest rising star and the premier dancer in R&B, her tacit endorsement of the song brought it to new heights.

Numbers-wise, it now stands at 425K videos on TikTok and counting. If that’s not enough, it even spawned a Fortnite emote—much as you may want to discount that. On top of that placement bringing it plenty of cultural purchase in the Gen Alpha demo, it speaks to the absolute ubiquity that the song, and its inextricable choreography, have acquired.

You can find “Back On 74” and the rest of the Jungle catalog wherever you stream your music.

Elsewhere on our slate, Artemas’ “i like when you kiss me” is making its own mark on our rankings.
