Heart Attack But Make it Rock

It’s the way that 10 years later, I get to fangirl about Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack.” Only this time, it’s bigger, better, and highlights how much strong Demi’s voice has gotten. Lovato has not just changed the music, she also re-recorded the vocals. The song builds from the pop-punk drums and adds raging guitars booming trap beats, and more raw emotion. While staying true to her roots, Lovato knew that remaking one of her most successful songs meant some things would need to change.

In an interview with Billboard music, Lovato spoke about how re-making this song ten years later is almost like reworking her legacy.

“I was so young, and I was a completely different person back then,” they explain. “I hadn’t come out as non-binary yet, so when I look back, I see a totally different person than I am today. But I still love that girl, I love that part of me.”

Quote from Billboard article about Demi Lovato’s rock version of “Heart Attack.”

Given the context of everything Lovato has gone through, it’s no wonder that we can easily hear and feel the differences between the two songs. There’s more grit, more anger, and overall more wisdom. Lovato knows now who they are, and more importantly, how far they’ve come.
