Welcome to Music Daily’s Trending Tracks, where we highlight the artists and trends occupying the music industry’s attention. Some come out of the woodwork, others have endured a months-long crusade to greatness. Nonetheless, all of them are captivating the short-circuited minds of Gen-Z social media users.

This week’s chart notably witnesses steady growth as Taylor Swift extends her history-making brigade with her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, thanks to Post Malone, and Eras Tour opener Sabrina Carpenter secures a “California Gurls” summer moment with her latest, “Espresso.”

“Million Dollar Baby (VHS)” by Tommy Richman

Upon its Apr. 26 release, the original version of Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” earned over 4.6 million on-demand U.S. audio streams, according to Luminate—an unusual feat for a solo single by an artist with relatively unestablished commercial history, let alone a crossover song. With supplement repackaging, including its “VHS” VERSION, the funk-punk, hip-hop artist is breaking out of Virginia and TikTok at an incredulous rate. Across both versions, “Million Dollar Baby” has over 200 million streams on Spotify at the time of writing.

“Fortnight” by Taylor Swift (ft. Post Malone)

The success of “Fortnight” is a no-brainer. Not only is it Taylor Swift’s only radio-ready single from her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, “Fortnight” has the flop-proof Post Malone. However, placing it as an intro track was a marketing strategy as much as the project’s thematic centerpiece. “Fortnight” met its mark, though. Currently, the collaboration has 290M streams on Spotify individually and occupied the top 14 spots of the Billboard Hot 100 alongside other album tracks, including “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” and “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart,” the week after its release.

The Tortured Poets Department debuted atop the Billboard 200 with first-week 2.6 million album-equivalent units, including 1.9 million pure sales, marking Swift’s biggest sales week. As of May, “Fortnight” holds the second biggest US sales debut for singles released in 2024, totaling to 560,000 units. Watch the music video for “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift (ft. Post Malone) below.

“The Code” by Nemo

Hailed as the winner of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Switzerland’s very own Nemo is onwards to superstardom. With his entry, “The Code,” which they describe as a “safe space through which every person can find their truth.” The song documents Nemo’s journey to feeling comfortable being different with their newfound non-binary identity. Like past winners, Netta, Duncan Laurence and Måneskin, “The Code” gathered positive feedback for Nemo’s multi-genre approach and vast vocal abilities. “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter

Predicted in the single’s feature, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” is the undisputed summer anthem of 2024. The single’s newly released EP, including instrumentals, acapella, an extended mix and more, only confirms the 24-year-old’s streaming farm attempt for her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s not only that; her debut musical appearance on television’s coveted Saturday Night Live is an added bonus. Adele even shouted out Carpenter’s single during her Las Vegas residency. Maybe the cheeky mention impressed the older demographic, boosting the total streams of “Espresso” to 312M on Spotify. Watch the music video for “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter below.
