Tomberlin Makes Comeback With “idkwntht”

Folk singer-songwriter Tomberlin is back with her first single in two years, “idkwntht.”

Tomberlin is Back After Two Years With “idkwntht”

The last time we heard about Tomberlin was in 2020. Back then, she released her 5-song Projections EP which followed up to her 2018 debut album At Weddings. Seems like she likes to make a big appearance every two years!

Tomberlin’s new single, “idkwntht,” stands for “I Don’t Know Who Needs to Hear This.” The soft, guitar-driven ballad has the musician singing to an invisible audience, where she explains her views of the world. “I don’t know who needs to hear this. Sometimes it’s good to sing your feelings. And every time I open my mouth. Hope something halfway helpful falls out,” she sings in the opening verse.

“Idkwntht” features guest vocals from Told Slant’s Felix Walworth, who sings in the background after Tomberlin sings every new line of the song. Together, they sound magical and hopeful. “‘IDKWNTHT’ is a sonic altar of sorts,” Tomberlin said in a statement. “It’s about taking a moment for remembrance, clarity, and setting an intention for what is to come. Kind of like a song version of writing out your intentions on a full moon. holding onto feelings, words, and past versions of ourselves and our behavior only help when we can examine experiences once we are outside of them. then we have to let it out, let it go, and try again.”

See Her Live at Noise Pop Festival in San Francisco

Tomberlin is currently gearing up to appear in San Francisco’s “Noise Pop” festival on February 21. The festival will celebrate independent music, film, and art, and will have other big artists performing and making appearances such as Azealia Banks, Jeff Tweedy, and Alex G. Tickets and more information about the festival are available here.

Tomberlin has also shared on Twitter that although there’s no official release date for an upcoming album, she does plan on releasing one later this year. So, hopefully, we get to hear more new music from her soon!
