After a legendary Super Bowl performance closing out 2020 as one of the most streamed artists, The Weeknd announced his After Hours Global Tour for 2022. Since the Grammy snub, the artist seems to be going all out.
The global tour will kick off on January 14th in Vancouver at Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena with stops in Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, Berlin and more. The tour will wrap on November 16th in London at The O2 and tickets are on sale right now at TheWeeknd.com/Tour.
The Highlights
In addition to announcing his tour, The Weeknd dropped a musical gem for his die hard fans. The Highlights is a compilation of some of The Weeknd’s favorite hit-tracks that will solidify him as Pop/ R&B royalty. While this isn’t a “Greatest Hits” album, it does provide the listener a rich look into some of his most recent and iconic songs.
The 18-track record pulls songs from The Weeknd’s platinum albums; Beauty Behind the Madness, Starboy, and Trilogy. This album is a nice nod to all the great music he’s given us over the years, but this could partly be to hold off fans because they have a year of waiting.
Raincheck on After Hours
After the crazy Super Bowl performance he had, I would expect The Weeknd to have some interesting things planned for the 2022 revival tour. The musician had so much going into the performance that Showtime is airing The Weeknd’s Super Bowl LV halftime show performance in a new documentary. The network will air The Show, a 90-minute feature documentary that gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Weeknd’s halftime show
He made 2021 bearable with his quarantine anthems, so now he is quarantining himself. Maybe we will see new music from him soon, a feature even, but most likely this “greatest hits” album seems like a farewell for now.
