Michaela Jaé Has “Something To Say”

Pose actress known professionally as  Mj Rodriguez debuted in the music industry with her first single, “Something To Say,” under the name Michaela Jaé.

“Something To Say” Brings Back Old-School Disco

“Something To Say” is a divine piece of old-school disco. It has Michaela teaming up with PWP on the writing duties. The song is an all-out and animated celebration of equality and love. It offers up a picture-perfect summer vibe, perfect for Pride month.

The song’s message, according to Rodriguez, is all about unity. “This song is for everyone around the world. For them to stop, look around, and see how we have more in common than we actually realize,” she says. “To stand up for what we believe. To embrace one another’s differences. Let’s stand for love! We are one!”

A New Chapter for Michaela

Michaela previously expressed her desire to embark on a music career during an Entertainment Weekly LGBTQ Pride Month cover interview. “I think theater is definitely on the table for me but way down the line when I’m a bit older. I think right now I’m still young and I have so much to offer to the acting realm, to the film industry, and the music industry… Music has been my passion for years, and I want that to happen.”

“I love being an artist and a singer so getting another acting opportunity that is something extremely different from Pose is the best thing for me,” Rodriguez told Essence. “This new role helps other people understand me as an artist, that I have all these multifaceted parts to my abilities, not just one.”

Recently, Michaela gave a stirring and surprise performance at the LGBTQ+ Pride concert series OUTLOUD: Raising Voices on June 6. It was Adam Lambert’s specifically curated set of musicians to celebrate Stonewall Day. This performance served as Michaela’s first-ever performance for the single. She performed “Something to Say” on the closing night of the three-day concert event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
