Calvin Harris and 21 Savage Enjoy “New Money”

Calvin Harris is slowly rolling out tracks from his long-awaited album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2. His newest drop, “New Money” featuring 21 Savage, is an instant hit. Harris’s Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 is his first album since 2017, and is set to release on August 5th.

Calvin Harris and 21 Savage Get Groovy on “New Money”

In true Calvin Harris fashion, “New Money” is groovy, indulging and screams summertime. 21 Savage, who once said he only makes “murder music,” compliments such a chill vibe. He raps softly over a funk-inspired beat, bragging of his riches. Fans are surprised that he’s featured on a dance song, but it works nevertheless. Savage raps, “I got new money, it ain’t even out yet / You went bought a plane ticket but I chartered it.” At the first listen, “New Money” sounds like a haphazard pairing. But, after some time, the track becomes a masterful combination of groovy production and sly rap.

Upcoming Featured Artists

Calvin Harris’ first Funk Wav album was a fan favorite. Many of its tracks charted and featured prominent artists like Frank Ocean, Ariana Grande, and Young Thug. After announcing Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, the Scottish DJ teased fans on its featured artists. Some of these include Lil Durk, Offset, Snoop Dogg, and Justin Timberlake.

More Tracks from Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2

“New Money” is the second single off of Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2. “Potion” featuring Dua Lipa and Young Thug is another summertime track, released May 27th. Dua Lipa sings softly of late night conversations while Young Thug raps of the player lifestyle. Calvin Harris is also dropping another song from the album titled “Stay With Me” featuring Justin Timberlake, Pharell and Halsey, on August 15th.

Calvin Harris on His New Album

Speaking of his upcoming album in an interview with Zane Lowe, Harris says “With this one I wanted to have more live drums, guitars … I wanted the original essence. I wanted the layers and the grit and the dirt. And I don’t want things to be mixed too perfectly.” Calvin seems to be embracing the messiness of production, all while maintaining a cohesive collection of tracks. If his first few drops are any indication, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 is sure to be a must-listen album.
