Britney Spears, the recently liberated princess of pop, teams up with Elton John on the soft disco track, “Hold Me Closer.” The new track, though, is a new rendition of John’s 1971 beloved classic “Tiny Dancer.” Even the subtle yet quintessential Britney adlibs and subdued vocals bring smiles to her fans who long-awaited her return. Though, fans got the royal escort to usher in Spears’s new era. (Thanks, John!)
The Storm Before The Release
Previously stated in last week’s article, Spears’s comeback single met controversy fueled by music leaks, teasing producers, and amplified by false tabloid stories, which drove fans insane. If the surprise decision to delay the song a week ia due to its leaking is something the world will never know. But it did give Britney lovers a never-heard-before demo of her unfinished single “Sucker 4 Pain” for 2016’s Suicide Squad soundtrack. The track was released officially with artists Imagine Dragons, Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa.
“Hold Me Closer” by Britney Spears & Elton John
Britney’s return to music after six years is nothing less than the most heartwarming moment of 2022. If Rolling Stone dubbing the single with “She Is Risen!: The Glorious Rebirth of Britney Spears” doesn’t make this moment feel surreal, there’s more!
Rolling Stone not only praises the single but Spears’s impact on pop music as a whole. Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone says, “So it’s an excellent time to celebrate the REAL Britney: one of the greatest pop artists to ever walk the earth. While everyone was fixating on her image, her fashion, her personality, everything except her music, this woman has actually built one of the most amazing catalogs in the history of pop music. A hugely influential visionary who permanently changed the way our lives sound. An innovator. An originator.”
“Hold Me Closer” isn’t the resurrection of Britney Spears. She never left the new deadlines. Whether by dancing, posing nude, or simply trying on dresses, the pop princess remains on top. Even still, it is hard to beat out this soft, lush disco track against dance classics like “Piece of Me,” “Circus,” and “3.” The new single is but a sign that there is so much more to come in this era for Miss Britney Spears.
