Memphis in May International Festival
The Beale Street Music Festival is the kick-off for Memphis in May, the annual month-long international festival. The BSMF roots started in the 1800s, as southern African-American musicians would gather at Beale Street to perform. Thus, to honor the city’s culture and the music embedded in its history, Memphis in May celebrates. Furthermore, the festival is the only event that has consistently been included in Memphis in May since its beginning.
Last summer, the festival announced that they were going to send out a survey to see what acts attendees would like to see in the line-up. Jim Holt, CEO of Memphis in May, mentioned “At the Beale Street Music Festival, we endeavor to offer something for almost every musical taste, and we have a few more surprise additions to come.”
