At the start of each year, inherently, the most significant records from the 12 months before have an outsized presence on the charts. However, as we near February, 2025 material is beginning to edge out what we all had in rotation for 2024. We’re back with Music Daily’s Trending Tracks, here to break it all down, including consistent success for this year’s Grammy nominees and some new faces making waves.
New Contenders Like Bad Bunny Begin To Edge Out 2024 Mainstays
GNX and CHROMAKOPIA each brought on album of the year consideration from both us and outlets across the industry, yet perhaps their stranglehold on the charts is sta5ti. Though each record has at least one smash single that’ll likely linger for weeks to come (“luther” / “tv off” and “Sticky,” respectively), we’re seeing the additional material on each start to slip. Lamar’s “squabble up” has left the top five for the first time since its release, while “Like Him” from Tyler is at risk of leaving the top 20.
The apparent question stemming from these findings is, “Who is taking their place?” Though we’ve yet to really see an inescapable record so far in 2025, it’s clear that Bad Bunny has an ironclad claim to that status. His DtMF takes this week’s pole position, and five more songs from Debí Tirar Más Fotos reside further towards the #50 spot. Additionally, LiAngelo Ball is doing his best to ensure that his success doesn’t cap out as just a trend. After a strong debut, “Tweaker” is now up to the #5 spot, an incredibly impressive ranking he’ll hope to follow up in the early days of his Def Jam contract.
Grammy Artists See Early Windfall From Nominations
With just under two weeks until the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, we’re smack in the middle of the period where artist and song nominations earnestly affect the charts. Though already two of the biggest winners from 2024, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan stand out as two of the biggest benefactors from the news. In December, before the Academy officially unveiled the nominees, the two artists only claimed one song each in our top 20, something Carpenter has doubled with “Taste” and “Bed Chem.” Further down the rankings, Roan’s meteoric singles continue to have sustained success, with “Good Luck, Babe!,” “Pink Pony Club” and “Hot To Go!” each sliding comfortably within the top 60.
Jumping away from those newly minted pop superstars, two of Roan and Carpenter’s “Best New Artist” competitors are each experiencing their own windfall from the nomination. After a few weeks sliding down our chart, Doechii reversed course this week, again flirting with top 40 status via her “DENIAL IS A RIVER.” On the other hand, Teddy Swims maintained a metronome-like consistency with his “Lose Control,” maintaining top 50 status for over a year, which is a good sign if you’re betting he’ll bring home the honor.
The Marias Are Poised For Potential Breakout For 2025
While they may not hold the coveted top 10 status that some other artists mentioned throughout this piece, the Marias have been holding steady with their single “No One Noticed” since November, preserving top 40 positioning every week since that date. A new development, they also cropped up in the 200 range with a 2021 cut, “Heavy.” Already nabbing a Grammy nom and a seismic placement in and of itself via their work on the previous Bad Bunny LP, Un Verano Sin Ti, organic engagement with their backlog is a major green light in a potential breakout for this year, provided they have new material to further that baked-in spotlight.
You can find all the artists mentioned here, including Bad Bunny and his new DtMF record, wherever you stream your music. We’ve also got you covered with a playlist laying out this week’s top 100.
