Vince Staples Is ‘With That’ And More On New Self-Titled Album

Last Friday, Vince Staples dropped what may become a staple album along side his other creations with a self-titled project. Vince Staplesthe album is an insight into who the West Coast rapper and who he is as a person.

Similar to his previous 2018 release FM! , the album is produced entirely by Kenny Beats and has 10 tracks with only one feature by Fousheé included.

Kenny Beats made his name from YouTube videos where he collaborates with some of Hip-Hop’s best MC’s. In recent years, he collaborated with people with Denzel Curry, Isiah Rashad, and has become great friends with Staples.

Vince starts the album off with a refreshing approach to his style and flow in the song “Are You With That“. From there, the album hits on topics of relationships, the music industry, and his mental health. This is by far the most personal album Vince has made and it makes for some really great bars.

In addition to the flow, Kenny Beats absolutely goes crazy with the instrumentals and samples on this one. The way some songs smoothly blend together is amazing and there is a consistent laid-back Northside Long Beach vibe. The album definitely deserves a full play through with no skips.

We are thrown into his life with authentic sound bites of Long Beach locals and stories of the hood. Vince Staples really re-examines his upbringing and focuses on consistent ideas through the whole project.

Vince Staples Before Vince Staples

Before the time off, Vince was on a blaze releasing four albums year after year starting with what put him on the map Summertime ’06 (2015).

His iconic single “Norf Norf” propelled him to success, then in 2017 Big Fish Theory showed he was more than a one hit wonder.

Now he is at it again with this 10-track project and although it may not be super smash hit, it is definitely a solid rap album.
