Founding of Oasis
In the late 20th century, two brothers from Manchester, England, formed a British rock band that would cement their names in England’s legendary rock and roll history. The siblings, Noel and Liam Gallagher, had an antagonistic relationship growing up. Still, two common interests united them: music and an undying love for Manchester City Football Club. Although the brothers didn’t play music together as children, Noel proposed forming a band in 1991. They named it “Oasis,” and in just two years, they released their debut single, “Supersonic,” which climbed to number 31 on the UK charts.
Following the immediate success of their debut single, Oasis released their debut album just one year later. On August 29, 1994, “Definitely Maybe” hit the charts, and the band’s hype continued to soar. The Gallagher brothers made a strong impression with their first album, setting the stage for a big future. “This album sparked a major revival in British music internationally,” said Rolling Stone, which ranked Definitely Maybe as the 65th best debut album of all time and #217 on its list of the top 500 greatest albums of all time.
Early Conflicts With Success

That year, Noel officially left Oasis before their scheduled performance at the Rock en Seine festival, effectively ending the band. For years, neither brother spoke to the other, leaving fans around the world to believe that Oasis would never take the stage together again.
British Football Club, Manchester United
Fast forward to 2023, and a reunion seemed possible—but not due to their love for music. The brothers were brought together by their shared passion for Manchester City Football Club. In 2023, the club had a chance to complete the historic “treble,” becoming only the second Premier League team to win the three biggest trophies an English football club can claim. This success reignited the Gallaghers’ relationship, and now, they plan to reunite Oasis for a 2025 tour, performing their greatest hits.
Rock fans worldwide may want to keep an eye on Manchester City next year as a form of gratitude. Whether Oasis stays together remains uncertain, but at least the band will hit the stage once more, delivering some legendary performances.
