The Academy of Country Music Awards is broadcasting live on April 18th on CBS. It is the 56th edition of the iconic awards show celebrating the best of country music.
Three of Nashville’s most famous country music venues are hosting the show. These include the Grand Ole Opry House, the Ryman Auditorium, and The Bluebird Cafe. Last year saw this happen as well.
In a press release, Damon Whiteside, CEO of the Academy of Country Music elaborated on the matter.
“We’re thrilled to return to Music City’s most iconic venues as we come together on April 18 to celebrate the best in country music, back in our normal awards cycle. A huge thank you to the city of Nashville, Grand Ole Opry House, Ryman Auditorium, and Bluebird Cafe for welcoming us back to Nashville, where we can look out for the safety of our artists while shining a spotlight on this vibrant city after a tough 2020.”
Las Vegas is the traditional home of the ACM Awards. As a result of the pandemic, safety measures meant dividing up the show. There is speculation about further safety measures being taken to allow for a live audience. 2020’s ACM Awards had no one in attendance, but with a better understanding of COVID-19, and the Ryman and Grand Ol Opry big enough to allow social distancing, there are sure to be ticket sales.
2020’s show saw the performances of Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Luke Combs, and Tim McGraw. This was Taylor Swift’s first time at the ACM Awards in seven years.
The three-hour show is premiering April 18 on CBS live at 8 PM on the east coast. The west coast will see a delayed premiere for the same time slot.
