Winona Oak Shares Golden “Island of the Sun”

Swedish singer-songwriter Winona Oak released her latest single “Island of the Sun,” marking her first solo single in nearly a year.

“Island of the Sun” is Bittersweet

Winona is back with her first single of the year and first solo song in 10 months, and she is surely not disappointing. “Island of the Sun” is a soft yet fiery track that sees Winona exploring the insecurities of a relationship that’s coming to an end, but not being ready to let go yet.

“I used to know your face like second nature. When did the darkness come in between this love? When did our hearts become strangers?… Come with me, follow me now. I wanna turn this around,” she sings.

“This song was created on a sunny evening in Los Angeles when I was going through a really tough time and felt more homesick than ever,” Winona says. “I grew up on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 5360 miles from LA in the middle of the Nordic forests of Sweden on a small island called Solens ö, a.k.a. Island of the Sun.”

She continues, “The island works as a metaphor for a place when everything’s peaceful and simple. Like that time in your childhood when the world is only as big and beautiful as you make it, you know as we grow older we tend to complicate things. I want the island to represent a happy place in ourselves or in a relationship, a bittersweet yearning for a place we ache to go again.”

A Look Into Winona’s Music Last Year

Last year, Winona released a variety of different singles, including collaborations with big artists as well as solo tracks. Most recently, she teamed up with DJ Alan Walker for “World We Used To Know,” and Australian record producer Kito on “Skin & Bones.” Kicking off 2021, she joined forces with rising artist ELIO on “Nobody Loves Me,” and she followed up with her solo song “Old Insecurities.”
