U2 Bono New Memoir, “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story”

After performing for almost 50 years alongside with bandmate The Edge in the band U2, singer Bono announces his debut in literacy with the release of his new memoir, ‘Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story.’

Leader of one of the most permanent bands in the history of rock: the U2u2

Paul David Hewson, globally known by his stage name Bono, recently announced his first book. In fact, on May 10, his birthday, he announced the release of his memoir. ‘Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story,’ the title of his book, will present 40 chapters narrating his journey as the lead singer of the iconic alternative rock band U2. Alongside with his band-mates – guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton, and drummer Larry Mullen Jr, the artist began his journey in 1976 and is still working in one of the most longevous and permanent band in the history of rock.

Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story

“When I started to write this book I was hoping to draw in detail what I’d previously only sketched in songs. The people, places, and possibilities in my life.”

In his first memoir, coming out on Nov 1, Bono will discuss his journey as leader of the U2. However, he will also narrates his private life. In fact, the 40 chapters represent the 40 most important and viral songs of the band. On the other hand, the “one story” representing the artist as a single is central as well. “Growing up in Ireland in the seventies with my fists up (musically speaking), it was not a natural concept,” said Bono introducing the book.

In fact, the singer released an animation in which he reads an extract from the chapter titled “Out of Control.” The chapter narrates the vicissitudes behind the writing of U2’s first single Out of Control. The song was released 44 years ago, on Bono’s 18th birthday. The day also represents the date of the announcement of the memoir.

“‘SURRENDER’ is honest, intimate, irreverent, and profound”

“Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story” will also include Bono’s 40 original drawings. These will be featured throughout the book, and also in the animations, by ROSEWOOD Creative.

The book will appear both in hardcover and ebook versions via publishing house Alfred A. Knopf, and in audiobook form via Penguin Random House.

“All of the passion that Bono brings to his music and his life he also brings to the page.”

This are the words of Arthur, Bono’s editor.

“Seven years ago another legend, the late Knopf editor Sonny Mehta, acquired the book, because he knew Bono fits into the tradition of literary Irish storytellers, and we were lucky to have Sonny’s notes on an early draft of the manuscript. ‘SURRENDER’ is honest, intimate, irreverent, and profound – a dazzling memoir of a remarkable life.
