I’ve been on a Muo Duo love train for a hot minute now. It’s not hard after reviewing September’s new five-track project, Afterpop (via Muo Duo Records). And the New York-based, brother-sister duo Miles and Winter is an unexpectedly stellar pair for music-making.
While Miles is an ex-Julliard instrumentalist, he’s a commercial songwriter and award-winning composer, who composed music for and is the musical director of an award-winning documentary film group STAGE, working on a series called Curiosity: The Making of a Scientist.
Then, there’s Winter, a Broadway-born vocalist, best known as young Elsa in Frozen on Broadway, who now sings with the MET Opera. At only 13, it’s also rare to be a seasoned actor, but here Winter is, starring on Sesame Street and NBC’s Manifest.
Together, Miles produces Muo Duo’s saccharine sound while Winter layers her ageless vocals and, boom, a record is born. “Capturing a moment; everyone waits with bated breath for ‘the next fresh sound,'” Miles said of their new record. “On Afterpop, we try to put forth an answer.”
There’s no stopping for Muo Duo, they are spoon-feeding “the next fresh sound” to everyone, at every venue possible. In July, I saw the sibling act conquer a three-song set live in the middle of Time Square for Wonderama. And yes, this was a reschedule after being rained out. Like I said, they don’t stop.
In recent Muo Duo news, they released a music video for Afterpop‘s hot track “Bunny Song.” They are also playing at New York City’s Brooklyn Music Kitchen on December 5, where they will “unveil” two new songs. Get your tickets here.
