The Drake and Kendrick Lamar Rap Beef Tops the Charts

Let's just say Kendrick Lamar won this diss round...

Welcome to Music Daily’s Trending Tracks, where we highlight the artists and trends occupying the music industry’s attention. Some come out of the woodwork, others have endured a months-long crusade to greatness. Nonetheless, all of them are captivating the short-circuited minds of Gen-Z social media users.

This week’s chart sees Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s rap beef via explosive diss tracks, Mitski’s “I Bet On Losing Dogs” and more occupy the top spots.

“Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar

In less than 24 hours since Drake’s third direct diss, Kendrick Lamar retaliated with his fourth diss, “Not Like Us.” This victorious entry restored West Coast respect after the “Hotline Bling” rapper utilized AI vocals of Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg. “Not Like Us” is a eulogy rather than a diss track. Anchored by a hyphy Mustard-produced beat with self-referential Lamar archetypes, the “Money Trees” artist sinks his teeth into prior allegations involving Drake being a “certified pedophile” and snitch. “Family Matters” by Drake

His third diss, “Family Matters,” sees Drake rally himself as a “Top 3” rapper alongside J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar—a claim which Lamar denied, thus elevating a years-long disdain into Rap-aggeddon. In true hip-hop fashion, nobody is safe as the “euphoria” response took aim at peers The Weeknd, Metro Boomin, A$AP Rocky, Rick Ross and label executive Dave Free. The “Family Matters” music video tackled the Bay Area rapper’s domestic abuse, ghostwriter and infidelity allegations in three separate parts. Watch “Family Matters” by Drake below.

“The Chicken In Black” by Johnny Cash

Ironically enough, Johnny Cash’s “The Chicken In Black” is known as his career “nadir,” with the country legend calling the 1984 single “intentionally atrocious” in his second autobiography. In an interesting turn of events, TikTok users are paying homage to the music video’s bank robber scene in over 240,00 videos. But instead of brandishing guns, the next generation is showing off their cute, cuddly pets. Watch “The Chicken In Black” by Johnny Cash below!

“I Bet On Losing Dogs” by Mitski

Mitski’s Puberty 2 (2016) has graced social media for nearly a decade already, and many netizens have decoded “losing dogs” as an homage to failed relationships that inevitably feel comfortable. Usually paired with a dark croquette aesthetic, “I Bet On Losing Dogs” is an essential Mitski track that embraces “stuck.” Stacked with nearly 200 million Spotify streams now, the endless “my baby” reverb is even recognizable against will, and will only grow into an angsty wail in the years to come. “one of wun” by Gunna

Gunna might be trending in tandem with the release of his fifth studio album, but “one of wun” flaunts Gunna’s jet-set lifestyle. Time will tell where the “drip too hard” rapper’s chart-climbing will get him. However, the trap-synth masterpiece is already ready for TikTok virality. Stream “one of wun” by Gunna below.
