Canadian indie-pop duo Tegan and Sara released their newest single “Yellow.” They also announced that a new album and accompanying tour are on the way.
New Album & Tour Crybaby Are Coming in October
Tegan and Sara are officially entering a new era. Back in April, the twin sisters duo released their single “F*****g Up What Matters.” But didn’t confirm if it was part of a bigger project. Now, they are releasing “Yellow,” and revealed that both songs are indeed part of their upcoming studio album Crybaby, set for release on October 21 this year.
But that’s not all the news they had to share with their fans, though. To celebrate the new album, Tegan and Sara will travel North America on the Crybaby Tour, which kicks off on October 26 in Philadelphia and wraps up on November 20 in Vancouver. Rising artist Tomberlin will join them as support act. Check out all the dates down below! You can get your tickets at https://teganandsara.com/events/
Crybaby will be the first album release that Tegan and Sara share since signing with the New York indie label Mom+Pop Music. “This was the first time where, while we were still drafting our demos, we were thinking about how the songs were going to work together,” Tegan said. “It wasn’t even just that Sara was making lyric changes or reorganizing the parts to my songs. It was that she was also saying to me, ‘This song is going to be faster’. Or ‘It’s going to be in a different key.’ But Sara effectively improves everything of mine that she works on.” Sara added, “Maybe I am the renovator. I’m the house-flipper of the Tegan and Sara band.”
Tegan and Sara Give a Teaser With “Yellow”
Giving fans a taste of the album, “Yellow” is a heartfelt, dreamy song. It arrives with a Mark Myers-directed video inspired by the clip for Coldplay’s 2000 single of the same name. “[Yellow] was written after we began to take steps to heal the bruises we have both carried with us since adolescence and early adulthood,” Sara said. “Wounds that never quite healed right and flare up seasonally, sending us spiraling backward in time. Are we doomed to remain forever 15, breaking up and breaking apart? I hope not. [The video] was shot in Vancouver, a city that didn’t feel big enough to hold us both when we arrived here the first time. Twenty-two years later, we’re back, calling it home.”
