Canadian pop singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes announced that his upcoming Wonder tour will be climate positive.
Shawn Cares About the Environment
It seems like more artists are creating sustainable tours! This is seriously great news not only for everyone in the music industry; but for every fan that attends these shows. Shawn Mendes is the last artist to join the cause and we cannot be more excited.
The Wonder tour, which kicks off in Portland on June 27, will reduce its per-show carbon footprint by implementing simple but effective practices that both fans and tour crew can do. To do so, the tour will offer merchandise with sustainable fabrics and fewer dyes; along with energy-efficient lighting and power for the show itself.
The crew will also use sustainable fuel options when traveling from show to show, while food will be sourced from local farms, and any excess will be composted or donated to the appropriate organizations. Fans are also encouraged to carpool or use sustainable transportation to shows in order to make the tour carbon negative.
A Step in the Right Direction
“Over the past year, my team & I set out to develop a sustainability program with the goal to make Wonder The World Tour a fully climate positive tour, in the hope that we could do our small part to contribute to making the way we tour greener,” Shawn shared on his Instagram account.
“No plan is perfect, but we see this as a starting point,” Shawn shared with Billboard. “We are in a pivotal moment for climate, and it’s crucial to me that this tour is a step in the right direction.”
So, if you plan on attending the Wonder tour when it kicks off, remember Shawn’s recommendations! Also, you can feel guilt-free about buying that merchandise item you really liked, as they will all be environmentally friendly. You can learn more about this initiative here.
