Welcome to Music Daily’s Trending Tracks, where we highlight the artists and trends occupying the music industry’s attention. Some come out of the woodwork, others have endured a months-long crusade to greatness. Nonetheless, all of them are captivating the short-circuited minds of Gen-Z social media users.
Friday, Summer It Girl Sabrina Carpenter dropped her self-proclaimed sophomore album, Short n’ Sweet. Now, one of her many radio-friendly pop hymns threatens to topple the success of Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’s power ballad, “Die With A Smile.” Ahead, find out if Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste” or Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’s “Die With A Smile” is your favorite track atop this week’s Trending Tracks chart!
“Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars
“I was finishing up my own album in Malibu,” Gaga says in a statement, teasing the release of the highly anticipated LG7. “One night after a long day, he [Mars] asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on. It was around midnight when I got there, and I was blown away when I heard what he had started making.” This single marks the duo’s first-ever collaboration, which went to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Out of the “Grenade” singer’s 53-track discography, “Die With A Smile” becomes his 19th Top 10 hit.
The accompanying music video for “Die With A Smile” features the pair in ’60s modpop attire: the bee hive-haired Gaga helms the piano in a sultry slow-mo, and Bruno looks equally dashing with his guitar, belting “til death do us part” affirmations. Together, their voices create an unforgettable spark (quite literally) on the retro talk show set. Stream “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars below!
“Taste” by Sabrina Carpenter
To top off her ascent to superstardom, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet’s first-day streams were double the amount compared to 2022’s emails i can’t send, earning 58 million Spotify streams across all 12 tracks. While “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” are the culprits to such astonishing success, the new album single, “Taste,” is just as guilty with its love-crossed gore and jealous lyrics.
In the Dave Meyers-directed music video, Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega stars as the new girlfriend of Carpenter’s ex. “Oh, I leave quite an impression, five feet to be exact,” Carpenter droles. “You’re wonderin’ why half his clothes went missing. My body’s where they’re at.” The girls engage in many “Death Becomes Her” chat fights, having a gay time with blood and terror. That is until one of them ends up in the grave.
