Ron Gallo releases “Can We Still Be Friends?”
Ron Gallo shares “Can We Still Be Friends?”, the latest single off his upcoming LP PEACEMEAL, out March 5th. The album came together after the band worked non-stop on the singles.
Gallo said he had to step back, breathe, and attempt to piece together all aspects of himself. Thus, resulting in a colorful hodgepodge of pop, jazz, 90’s hip-hop, lo-fi/hi-fi sounds, idiosyncratic guitar playing, and for the first time. Gallo also found self-acceptance and joy in his music. Once the album was done, the title was clear, PEACEMEAL, representing Gallo’s hard work on the album.
This comes as a departure for Gallo. His previous three records dealt with more intense, socially conscious garage/punk music. It looks like Gallo might have been able to find some inner peace with this album.
The shift in Music with PEACEMEAL
Most of these songs were written and recorded during self-isolation last summer when Gallo was forced back to America from Italy due to immigration issues. He had planned to stay with his now-wife and collaborator, Chiara, until she got her visa. A time that personally felt weirdly similar to everyone’s situation mid-pandemic less than a year later.
Though Gallo has been making music for more than a decade, this is just the beginning of him finding himself on an endless chase he’s been on forever. If the goal before was to try and change the world now, it’s about changing and embracing oneself and trying to make people happy by just being whatever that is, and as always, find the humor in the heaviest human stuff.
