Lil Nas X & NBA Youngboy Diss BET on “Late to Da Party”

Lil Nas X and Youngboy Never Broke Again are the collab you never expected, but never knew you needed until now. The unlikely pair’s latest drop, Late to the Party” is a playful and punchy trap-pop banger. It has a sense of humor thanks to Lil Nas’ witty lyrics. And YoungBoy drops a hard verse, bringing some fire to this track.

The video for “Late to the Party” is pretty silly and sure to put a smile on your face, so be sure to check that out. This song is fun, but don’t get it twisted, it’s a diss track taking aim at BET. It’s pretty hard to miss that with the “FUCK BET” refrain in the intro and outro on the song. Earlier this month, Lil Nas X teased the diss track after receiving zero nominations for the 2022 BET Awards.

Lil Nas X’s Beef with BET

He tweeted, “idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album. feel like that should’ve helped me a bit.” He follows, “not even that, doesn’t even have to be me nominated. I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to presented we are invisible.”

And he didn’t stop there. Lil Nas dropped the track just two days before the awards air. He tweeted this video mocking the award show to promote the track. He also tweeted this star-wars-style script video claiming BET used him for clout. And to top it off, the previous cover art for the track was a picture of Lil Nas X peeing on his BET award.

BET may be “Late to Da Party” when it comes to supporting Lil Nas and other black gay musicians. But I don’t see this relationship being mended any time soon.
