Kim Petras Kicks Off The New Era With “Future Starts Now”

Rising pop star Kim Petras kicked off a new era of music. Last week, she premiered “Future Starts Now,” an uplifting electro-pop banger.

Kim Petras is Finally Back!

“Future Starts Now” marks the star’s first solo single of the year, and her first one since unveiling the album TURN OFF THE LIGHT in October of last year. Well known for her electro-pop roots, Kim made sure to give fans what they wanted. The new track is definitely uplifting and sunny, landing just in time before the summer comes to an end.

Alongside featuring catching beats and electrifying music, “Future Starts Now” invites Kim fans to believe in themselves and never give up fighting for their dreams. “Ain’t nobody gonna stop me. Don’t you let the music stop now. You’re more than just anybody. Don’t give up, the future starts now…One day everyone will notice. The world is yours and you should know it,” she sings.

She Recorded “Future Starts Now” in a Closet! Can You Believe it?

Kim actually premiered the song almost a month before its official release while performing at Lollapalooza in Chicago on July 29. Back then, she told Forbes how special the new song was for her. “I wrote [‘Future Starts Now’] with my friends during lockdown – and recorded it in a closet. I’m finally able to share it in person. I didn’t want to drop anything without being able to perform it with my fans – that’s the real thing.”

To celebrate the release of the single, Kim hosted a Q&A session on Twitter where fans could ask her questions about the new era. One fan asked, “Was this song one of the easier or more challenging songs to make for the album?” To what she responded on a video message: “‘Future Starts Now’ I would say was easy to write. We definitely switched around parts a lot but I think that the main hook and everything else all happened very fast and in one day. I was just getting back to writing after a couple of months of watching movies and Anime, you know, just kind of filling my creativity back up, and then it just all kinda came out. So it was very easy ‘cause I’d just bottled up so many ideas.”
