Why Support Striking Netflix Writers?

On Monday, May 1st, after six weeks of unsuccessful negotiations, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced in a formal letter that as of Tuesday, May 2nd, they were officially going on strike. They quote,

Here is what all writers know: the companies have broken this business. They have taken so much from the very people, the writers, who have made them wealthy. But what they cannot take from us is each other, our solidarity, our mutual commitment to save ourselves and this profession that we love. We had hoped to do this through reasonable conversation. Now we will do it through struggle.

Official picket line strike schedule for the WGA strike.

This is the first strike in over 15 years and is having major impact on all Hollywood filming for the time being. All members of the WGA are set to follow a strict set of rules while the strike continues. Read more about the exact measures of this strike HERE. The effects of this strike have affected musicians like the Foo Fighters’ appearance on SNL. However, we can still see artists like Imagine Dragons show their support.

The strike continues as members of WGA argue that their compensation for the time and effort they put into their work is unjust. Follow along for more updates and acts of solidarity from other big names.
