Gunna and Lil Baby Get Their First Certified Diamond Hit
Rap fans know that Gunna & Lil Baby are one of the best duos in the rap game. Between ‘Close Friends’, ‘Chanel (Go Get It)’, ‘Sold Out Dates’, and many more hits, it’s hard to pick a favorite. But ‘Drip Too Hard’ might be one of their best collaborations yet.
The single came out on September 12th, 2018, and was certified diamond on the 4th anniversary; September 12th, 2022. This achievement is one that only a few in the rap game can say that they’ve accomplished. Rappers and hip hop artists like Eminem, Drake, Macklemore, Outkast, and The Notorious B.I.G are just some of the people who have had certified diamond tracks. Both Lil Baby and Gunna have left their marks in the music industry multiple times.
Gunna’s Rise to Diamond
Wunna’s first mixtape under YSL was Drip Season, which was released in October of 2016. In 2017, he came out with Drip Season 2 and Drip or Drown. In 2018, he released Drip Season 3, which I personally think is his best album (ever). He’s come out with multiple other albums since. His most recent album, DS4Ever, released on January 7th, 2022. The album reached number 1 on the US Billboard 200, making it his second number 1 album after his album Wunna.
In addition, Gunna does his part in the fashion industry, with unique and colorful (not to mention expensive) outfits. In the diamond song “Drip Too Hard,” he proclaims “Designer to the ground, I can barely spell the names.” Fashion is important to Gunna and it shows. Drip is his middle name!
Lil Baby’s Journey
The Diamond Hit
‘Drip Too Hard’ was the lead single off of Lil Baby and Gunna’s album, Drip Harder. Since the release, the song currently has over 4 billion worldwide streams. Sadly, at the moment Wunna is in prison for allegedly being a part of the YSL gang (Young Slime Life). Gunna, along with Young Thug have been charged with violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. I’m sure he’s still celebrating where he is!
Lil Baby has been having an amazing week to add on to the diamond hit. According to Billboard, the rapper’s “Detox” single debuted at #25 on the latest Hot 100 rankings. As a result, Lil Baby tied Elvis Presley for 9th place on the list of most all-time entries on the Hot 100. Presley and Baby both have exactly 109 tracks that have made it onto the weekly tally.
