Glastonbury Fest 2023: Here’s What You Need to Know

No diversity and secret stars hidden in the text: this is how Glastonbury Festival 2023 starts its way to June 21st, first day of the festival. The announcement of headliners of the likes of Elton John, Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys, Lil Nas X and Guns N’ Roses was not enough for fans. The lineup was questioned when those names included only a few LGBT+, black or female artists.

Glastonbury Fest 2023: here’s what you need to know

From June 21st to June 25th, Glastonbury, England, will host the biggest festival in the world. Get ready to see live some of the best artists around. From Lana Del Rey to Alt J, from Lil Nas X to Guns N’ Roses, the festival presented an incredible line-up, perfect for any music fan! Elton John is undoubtedly the main name among the headliners. Emily Eavis said:

“It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year. This will be the final UK show of Elton’s last ever tour, so we will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send offs. We are so very happy to finally bring the Rocket Man to Worthy Farm!”

As always, it will be possible to sleep at the festival in the opposite areas reserved for camping.

One festival, many controversies

The event hasn’t started yet, but the announcement of the official line-up alone was the beginning of not few problems. In fact the festival was first accused of lacking of women, LGBT+ and black artists in the line-up. “Where’s the diversity? A bunch of (mainly straight) white men,” wrote a fan on Instagram. Moreover, the organisers received a lot of unsatisfied critiques from fans who didn’t accept that names like Lana Del Rey were in the lowest part of the poster. “Imagine not mentioning Lana in the caption she’s the biggest of all headliners.” The organizers immediately returned to the original poster to edit and release a new version.

Few months ago, Glastonbury Festival announced a contest for emerging talents. Overall 90 up and coming acts were chosen and will perform at the event.

“We’re very pleased to announce the 90 acts on the longlist for our EMERGING TALENT COMPETITION 2023, which is supported by PRS for Music and the PRS for Music Foundation. These acts were picked by our judging panel, made up of 30 of the UK’s best online music writers.”

Watch here soon for all the names of these young talents and support them at the hottest festival of the Summer!
