Dolly Parton Shares New Album and Book, “Run, Rose, Run”

The Queen of Country Teams up with the World’s Bestselling Author

Dolly Parton is a busy woman. She’s spent the past few years making a Netflix series, starting a library providing free books to children, and funding the COVID-19 vaccine just to name a few projects.  And she’s still blazing full speed ahead, giving us her 48th studio album, Run, Rose, Run. Yes, that’s right. FORTY-EIGHTH. And it doesn’t even stop there! Run, Rose, Run is a companion piece to a novel she’s co-written with bestselling author James Patterson.

Dolly is so accomplished that it’s not surprising to learn this is not her first venture into the literary world. She’s written several memoirs and children’s books, but this is a new, more mature fiction offering. Little, Brown and Company publishers describe the novel as, “a thriller about a young singer-songwriter on the rise and on the run, and determined to do whatever it takes to survive.” Leave it to Dolly, one of the greatest songwriters of all time, to beautifully tell this story through a vibrant album. Dolly Parton is untouchable in the way she can musically craft a narrative, with her charismatic inflection and exuberant spirit.

A Heartfelt, Timeless Album

Run, Rose, Run isn’t anything particularly groundbreaking from Dolly, but it sure is fun. On “Big Dreams and Faded Jeans,” Dolly serves up the classic motif of the struggling songwriter trying to make it in Nashville. We know she’s speaking from experience, but with Dolly’s enduring talent and prowess, it’s hard to imagine that was ever her situation. She shows us an undeniably bubbly bluegrass side on “Firecracker” and “Dark Night, Bright Future.” She’s as sassy and commanding as ever, singing, “You can lose a finger if you’re pointing it at me” on “Firecracker.”

Run, Rose, Run, the novel co-authored by Dolly Parton and James Patterson hits the shelves on March 7. In addition, country star Kelsea Ballerini narrates the audiobook with Dolly. March 7 is also a big day for Dolly because she’ll be hosting the 57th annual Country Music Awards. The awards are streaming live on Amazon Prime at 8 pm.
