Doja Cat & SZA Perform “Kiss Me More” At The BBMA’s

Doja Cat & SZA performed their spring hit “Kiss Me More” at the Billboard Music Awards, where each of them had nominations.

Performing at the BBMA’s and Taking Home the Award

The girls teamed up and gave a magical performance at this year’s BBMA’s. Each of them wore magnificent outfits and showed off their dance moves alongside dancers and choreographers.

Doja Cat was nominated in 5 different categories: R&B Female Artist, R&B Album, New Artist, R&B Song, and R&B Artist. At the end of the night, she won the Best R&B Female Artist, making the award her first-ever BBMA.

On the other hand, SZA was also nominated for R&B Female Artist, but Doja got the milestone this time. Back in 2018, she received the big award.

An Out-Of-This-World Video for “Kiss Me More”

It is no secret that Doja Cat has had massive amount of success over the last year. From her hit single “Say So” going viral on TikTok to collaborating with artists such as Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, and Tyga, the rising hip-hop star is here to stay. “Kiss Me More” marks the beginning of a thrilling new era. The fun single came out with an intergalactic music video, directed by Warren Fu who has worked with everyone from The Weeknd to Kehlani. The video offers a first glimpse into the brand new world Doja is creating.

In the clip, an earthling astronaut, portrayed by Grey’s Anatomy actor Alex Landi, crash lands in another galaxy where Doja Cat and SZA reside. The pair engage with the astronaut, but the encounter is not as it seems. After he is blinded by the stars’ beauty, he gets tricked by the girls. They capture him to have as a distraction. In the video’s cheeky conclusion, it’s revealed that plenty of other men have been captured as well. Each had fallen for the girls’ charms.

Doja Cat & SZA Explain Working Together

The pair first teased the collaboration in the March issue of V Magazine. SZA conducted the interview, calling “Kiss Me More” a “different strut” regarding genre. She also praised Doja’s ability to make cross-genre music.

“You make music in all these other realms and make it sound like it touched my inner mind and spirit. It’s like, you’re exactly who I needed when I was in high school and college. I just wanted to feel like it’s OK to be an individual that isn’t really planted but is highly mutable and superfluid. Working with you was literally my dream.”

Doja also touched on working with SZA. “It’s people that I respect and I’m extremely excited about having on the album – it’s a full-circle moment for me, basically.” She then told SZA, “Just knowing that I have you on it is just sexy. It’s perfect. I feel confident.”
