Carly Pearce & Ashley McBryde Unite For Tragic Single “Never Wanted To Be That Girl”

Country music queens Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde joined forces for a new song about a painful cheating experience. Together, they tell the story of what it feels like to be the “other woman” without even knowing you are.

Carly and Ashley are Incredible Songwriters

Proving how amazing the two of them are as songwriters just as they are singers, the pair created a beautiful yet heartbreaking song about the story of being cheated on. “What started out as one night turned to six months just like that. He never had a ring on. So I never thought to ask. But then last night I saw a message on his phone. That said ‘Hey babe, what time you comin’ home?’ I never wanted to be that girl…Being ‘The Other One’ when there’s another one. God, this feels like hell. Thought I knew who I was but it’s getting hard to tell,” are some of the starting lyrics of the song.

They Celebrate Their Friendship With the New Song

Regarding the new song, Carly shared on her Instagram, “This is the story of how a bad man happened to two good women.” On a press release, the two singer-songwriters discussed the song’s writing process. “Ashley is such a great drop-into-the-moment writer, she was able to bring that reality bomb truth to what we were doing,” Carly said. “She’s fearless, and she understands human nature in a way that let us both really write to the hurt of realizing we’ve been lied to by someone we’re intimate with.”

“Carly isn’t afraid to face the less potable subjects,” Ashley added. “As a writer, she’s willing to get in there and get very honest. Writing this song together with Shane strengthened our friendship and taught us more about one another and ourselves. Seriously, nobody wants to be the other woman. And when you find you are…damn. It’s such a gut punch.”

The duet is definitely made for whoever has been through a similar situation and can relate. Or, if you just want to sing it out loud while crying during karaoke night with your best friend, that works too.
