Amy Winehouse’s Goddaughter Will Honor Late Star With Documentary

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Amy Winehouse’s death, MTV will premiere a documentary featuring the star’s friend and goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield.

Dionne Bromfield Opens up About Amy’s Impact on her Life

The “Rehab” hitmaker died from alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011. Produced ten years after Amy Winehouse’s tragic passing, the MTV documentary Amy Winehouse & Me: Dionne’s Story follows Amy’s Goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield, as she opens up for the first time about the impact of Amy’s death on her life.

The film will take viewers on a deeply personal journey with Dionne. She will share the highs, lows, and exclusive unseen archival material from the adventures she had with Amy; all while paying tribute to their unbreakable bond.

In a statement, she says, “I can’t tell you now just how therapeutic this journey has been for me. Finally, I can move forward into the next chapter of my career; knowing that I have dealt with emotions that have been buried for years. I hope this documentary shows Amy as more than just a person struggling with addiction. Instead, showcases the amazing person my godmother was.”

The Documentary Will Premiere on July 23

Amy Winehouse & Me: Dionne’s Story will premiere on July 23 on various MTV networks around the world. Before airing on the Paramount+ streaming service in Australia, Canada, and across Latin America and Northern Europe later this summer, reports Billboard.com.

“A true icon, Amy Winehouse had raw talent. Musical ingenuity that inspired artists and fans all over the world,” says Kerry Taylor; EVP International for MTV Entertainment Group. “MTV gave her a global stage during her career. I’m honored to work with Dionne to share her poignant story. Spotlight Amy’s incredible life, legacy, and enduring impact on music culture.”

Sharing the news on Instagram, Bromfield writes, “I’m so excited to share with you all that for the last few months; I have been working on an incredibly special and personal documentary. Showing the loving and caring side to the Amy I knew so well.”

It’s not the only anniversary project in the works – Winehouse’s mother, Janis, will also celebrate the star’s memory in a new BBC documentary, titled, Amy Winehouse: 10 Years On.
