Is Rapper Lil Tjay Really “Destined 2 Win”?

After dropping “Calling My Phone” alongside 6LACK this year, Lil Tjay has returned with a new track titled “Headshot.” As well as another big hip-hop project out this weekend.

Not The Full Circle Moment We Expected

Lil Tjay’s “Headshot” features rappers Polo G and Fivio Foreign. The new single kicks in with a classical violin being played along with piano notes serving as the background to hard-knocking 808s. Rapper Polo G’s opening verse has a punchy flow that will get every listener head-banging instantly. There isn’t really a hook, so its catchiness depends on the beats and verses for the two-and-a-half minute song.

Unfortunately, Polo G is the only one that comes with lyrics and a flow that is memorable, as Lil Tjay’s verse is more of a closing bridge. Overall, the song isn’t terrible, but the Tjay has done better work. Luckily, we have a lot more to expect from the drill-influenced rapper.

Tjay had a rough start this year after kicking off 2021 with a charge for possession of guns and marijuana. However, the Bronx rapper has worked hard to drop the follow-up to 2020’s State Of Emergency.

About Lil Tjay’s Third Studio Project

On Friday, April 2, Lil Tjay will release Destined 2 Win, a 21-track studio album with six featured artists. It is his third studio album to date. Since the announcement on March 26, Lil Tjay has pre-released six singles. This includes “Headshot,” as well as the vibe-influenced “Calling My Phone.” He explained the meaning of the upcoming record in a tweet:

The young New York rapper is well on his way to making his name for himself in the rap scene. Having of the biggest stars in the genre, Polo G, to vouch for his work, really helps.

Lil Tjay originally got himself noticed after Polo G released his 2019 hit with the up-and-coming rapper, “Pop Out.” This feature was huge and set the stage for his first full-length project, True 2 MyselfAfter the drop, Lil Tjay found himself as part of yet another popular rapper’s smash hit, Pop Smoke‘s 2020 single, “Mood Swings“.

We have yet to see if the rapper is going to keep the trend going of being a featured artist on big songs or if he will make a hit of his own. This new project should show us where he’s heading, though.

We would like to see Lil Tjay steer away from the singing vocals heard in “Born 2 Be Great,” but if he can hone his drill rap skills, he will without-a-doubt be Destined 2 Win.
