While familiar faces like Bad Bunny, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar still rank high in Music Daily’s Trending Tracks rankings, Travis Scott, Supa King and Lola Young make for a crop of “newcomers” defining the early goings of 2025. Here are some of the biggest takeaways from this edition of Music Daily’s Trending Tracks.
As we get into the swing of 2025, a return for Travis Scott via his “4×4” is a sign of the superstars beginning to get involved, earning himself a familiar high placement with that “comeback” single. Though he could have achieved this without much promo, some of the crossover opportunities he utilized the song for undoubtedly push it up the rankings. La Flame took to both the College Football Championship halftime and Netflix’s new Monday Night Raw stages with performances of the song, building hype and anticipation that led to big streaming weeks across all major platforms.
Lola Young Plots A Possible Breakout
Shifting over to a potential superstar in the making, “Messy” by Lola Young marches on with another top 10, unwavering in that position on each of our 2025 reports. To be clear, she wasn’t a stranger to the charts before, hovering around the #25 spot with that same song in the closing months of 2024 and earning a feature credit on another mainstay, Tyler, the Creator’s “Like Him.” Now, it’s not just us taking notice of the song—strong streaming, airplay, and social media usage give “Messy” a four-quadrant type formula for sustained success. Always an indicator of mainstream crossover, the meteoric single earned her a Tonight Show performance just last week, likely a “canary in the coal mine” indicating that an earnest star turn is potentially in the cards for 2025.
Supa King Rides Strong Social Performance
One final big winner is Supa King with his “Tell On Me,” rocketing up to #1 in social play after a “bubbling under” placement of 141 just last week. For those who haven’t come across the track, the Down South cut features breezy yet hard-hitting production and some racy verse sections over top, provided by the song’s leading artist and none other than Kevin Gates. On a topline level, TikTok continues to propel “Tell On Me” via a wall-crawling dance trend/challenge set to the Supa King hook, always a helping force in creating these sorts of overnight sensations.
However, digging deeper into the song’s history, you’ll find that this was, in fact, a 2016 release from a somewhat under-the-radar mixtape release. Once again, TikTok proves to be entirely agnostic when it comes to timelines, bucking the (logical) processes of Billboard and other long-standing pillars where “old” material only resurfaces on special occasions (in the wake of a passing, holiday music, etc.). Further, while Kevin Gates isn’t the primary driver of this song’s success, this marks another notch in a streak of solid commercial viability. While “Tell On Me” has a long way to go to reach these milestones, the rapper has minted a gold or higher certified track nearly every year since 2014.
