Singer, rapper, and songwriter Lizzo released her new studio album Special, her first since 2019’s Grammy-winning Cuz I Love You.
Special is Here to Make You Dance
Lizzo is back! Back in April, the global star announced the start of her new era with the single “About That Time.” She also announced that the song was part of a new upcoming album. In June, she followed up with “Grrrls,” another banger. Now, she is giving us the entire project and we could not be more excited!
The 12-song album Special brings back disco beats from the 80s and makes us all want to get up and move. It doesn’t have any collaborations, but Lizzo makes every single song worth a listen. Some tracks that stood out to me are “I Love You B*tch,” and “Everybody’s Gay” and “Coldplay.” Back in April, Lizzo said she wrote “175 to 200 songs” in an April interview with Sirius XM’s The Heat. That’s incredible!
Lizzo Performed the Album Live on the Lizzoverse Experience
But Lizzo is not only stopping at an album. This weekend, she celebrated the release of Special by holding an immersive concert event titled Lizzoverse. Presented by American Express and produced by Superfly, the audiovisual planetarium spectacle took place in New York City’s Cipriani 25 Broadway, with shows starting every two hours 10 am to 8 pm from Saturday to Sunday. For fans that couldn’t attend the show in person, Amazon Music held a livestream of the full show on Twitch on Friday.
Shiz Suzuki, Vice President, Global Experiential Marketing and Partnerships at American Express, commented: “Lizzo has been a long-time partner of American Express. From celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall Pride in New York to headlining the final performance of our American Express UNSTAGED digital music series in 2021 live from the beach in Miami, we know how much our Card Members love epic experiences with her! We are so excited to continue collaborating with her. To bring a one-of-a-kind album release experience of her new album ‘Special’ to our Card Members.”
