Genre-bending artist Machine Gun Kelly has revealed that he plans on returning to his roots of rap music for his next album.
Machine Gun Kelly Wants His Pop-Punk Music to Be Missed
Machine Gun Kelly’s last albums have been nothing but successful. Tickets to My Downfall and Mainstream Sellout both gave us huge hits. Among them, some that stand out are “my ex’s best friend,” “forget me too,” “maybe” and “emo girl.” Well, it looks like we might have to wait until we hear new pop-punk music from MGK again, as he revealed that he wants to return to rap music in his next album.
During an interview with Audacy Music, Machine Gun Kelly explained where his creative process will go next. “I’m going to make a rap album for myself, for no other reason, no point to prove, no chip on my shoulder. If I keep doing things to prove things to people, I’m going to one: drive myself crazy, and two: not make a good product. I made Tickets to My Downfall and Mainstream Sellout because I wanted to make them. I need to now also make people miss that sound.”
He added, “I’m going to do this tour and I’m gonna step into where I left Hotel Diablo and expand on my storytelling as a rapper and find a new innovative sound for the hip-hop Machine Gun Kelly. That’s where my excitement is and where I as a music archaeologist want to explore.”
He’s Going on Tour This Summer & Fall
The news that Machine Gun Kelly is already planning his next album certainly comes as a surprise, considering that his latest album Mainstream Sellout was just released in March. Nevertheless, he’s also known for releasing new music with no long breaks.
Machine Gun Kelly is heading on his Mainstream Sellout tour starting this June. The tour will make stops across North America and Europe, and will wrap up in October. He’s bringing really special guests along with him, like Avril Lavigne, Blackbear, WILLOW, Iann Dior, Trippie Redd and Travis Barker.
