Jason Aldean & Carrie Underwood Unite on “If I Didn’t Love You”

Country legends Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood united their voices for the first time in a new hit, “If I Didn’t Love You.”

Jason & Carrie Combine Their Voices for the First Time

“If I Didn’t Love You” marks Jason’s first collaboration in over two years. “Can’t Hide Red” featuring Florida Georgia Line came out in February 2019. After that, he focused on his solo singles and released his new album 9 in November of the same year.

On the other hand, Carrie has been staying a little bit busier. Just this year, in March, she dropped her latest album, My Savior. A few months earlier, she collaborated with David Bisbal for their new single “Tears of Gold”; and she even dropped a Holiday album My Gift in September 2020.

“If I Didn’t Love You” is the perfect amalgam we needed between these two country geniuses. Their vocals mix together superbly, creating a song that can be great for karaoke night with friends. “If I didn’t love you I’d be good by now. I’d be better than barely getting by somehow. Yeah, it would be easy not to miss you. Wonder about who’s with you. Turn the want you off. Whenever I want to. If I didn’t love you,” they sing together in the chorus.

“If I Didn’t Love You” Came to Life at the Last Minute

During an interview with iHeartCountry, Jason shared what the song means to him. “It’s a song about getting over a relationship and sort of knowing what you need to do in your head, but it’s really kind of hard to do that in the heart. It’s one of those love song, breakup song kind of things.”

He also revealed how “If I Didn’t Love You” came out kind of at the last minute. “A couple of guys in my band went and decided they wanted to try and focus on writing a duet. And they went in for a couple of days and came back with this song. I just thought the song was great.”

“We just didn’t have a duet partner for it yet, so I went in and cut the song anyway, I just — I was like, “Man, if we can’t find somebody to sing on this, the song’s too good to not record.” So, I cut the song, and in the meantime, we were — we had a short list of people we wanted to reach out to, and Carrie was at the top of the list, so we sent it to her and got basically an immediate response back from her that she loved the song, was interested, and then, all of a sudden, it was kinda like a rocket from there.”

And we’re so glad it worked out! The song sounds amazing. Have you listened to it yet?
