INJI’s Promise Is Undeniable: Live At Webster Hall

Inji showcased exactly why she's received so much attention with a high-tempo, personal performance live in NYC.

INJI’s mission for herself and the crowd when she took the stage at Webster Hall was made of a simple three parts. Be ready to dance, be ready to party, be ready to jump. Hot off the heels of her latest EP, WE GOOD, INJI took to New York City as a part of her TOUR YOU CAN SCREAM ALONG TO. Here’s everything you might’ve missed and why she should be appointment viewing in your city.

The INJI Biggest Hits Get Big Reactions

Truly living up to an “all killer no filler” cadence, most of INJI’s set came in rapid succession with scant introductions in between. She executed this concept especially well with the intro stretch of “THE ONE/ALL I WANNA DO/MADELINE/UNTZ UNTZ.” Though the trademark INJI material relies heavily on electronic music, the addition of a live band into the mix added an unquestionable punch.

Shortly in, it became clear that New York was clearly a significant stop on the tour and truly a seminal stop at this point in INJI’s path so far. In addition to a shoutout to a slew of her college circle, many of whose experiences quite literally come up in many songs’ lyrics, INJI’s parents in attendance got a personal spotlight. Sentimental on its own, she recruited some help from the crowd to prove that music was, in fact, her calling. She helped quell any “real job” fears with arguably the loudest crowd pop of the evening.

Another set of special guests made some scattered appearances, a set of dancers who doubled as backup singers. Each clearly in on the INJI experience, it added to a spirit of contagious enthusiasm that redoubled what INJI put forth on the stage. For long-time fans, look forward to a few unreleased cuts previewed at Webster Hall. Perhaps most interesting in that cache of unreleased songs was a bossa nova ballad, “EXES.” “EXES” is easily the furthest jump from her signature sound that we’ve heard so far.

High Marks For The Rising Pop Star

On top of being one of her most streamed tracks to this point, “GASLIGHT” was easily the most anticipated. It essentially kickstarted INJI’s career. “GASLIGHT” caught major traction on TikTok and led to the chain of EPs and singles up to this point. In one of the best moments of crowd interaction, she turned the mic to the audience to dedicate the performance of the song to their relationship horrors of the past. While it’s probably best to not reprint some of those sordid sagas, it’s a fun bit added into the mix, clearly a bit that gets pulled out at each stop.

“At first you won’t know it, but you know it,” the singer said as she previewed the only bit of non-original material: a cover of Estelle’s “American Boy” set to her characteristic high-tempo, high-octane dance pop underneath before “BELLYDANCING” closed out the night on another high note.

While the peripherals at Webster Hall made INJI’s performance all the more memorable, don’t be mistaken—the 23-year-old’s sheer energy and performance chops would’ve carried the night by a mile even in their absence.
