Victoria Monét’s First Solo Hot 100 Entry “On My Mama”

Sitting at its peak position of number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100, “On My Mama” marked Monét’s first solo entry on the chart. But Victoria Monét is far from an overnight success. For a decade now, Monét has been making strides in the music industry behind the scenes. She has seen plenty of success on the chart as a co-writer penning smash hits “Thank U, Next” and “7 Rings” with Ariana Grande. Five years later, Victoria is making her breakthrough as a solo artist, thanks to the Charlie Boy-sampled, “On My Mama.”

A Staggering Seven GRAMMY Award Nominations

After being blackballed at the VMA’s, Victoria Monét got her much overdue flowers at the 2024 GRAMMY awards. With seven nominations, the singer-songwriter was up for categories Record of the Year, Best New Artist and Best R&B Album. Out of the seven nominations, the artist won three. Victoria’s daughter, Hazel, became the youngest-ever GRAMMY nominee. She chimes in on the track “Hollywood,” which is up for best traditional R&B performance. On top of that, Victoria Monét is the only Best New Artist nominee who received a nomination in another “Big Four” category. “On My Mama” competed for the Record of the Year category amongst nominees SZA, boygenius, Billie Eilish and more. Further, other nominees for Best New Artist included Gracie Abrams, Ice Spice, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, Fred again.. and The War and Treaty.

“Persuasion” With Bryson Tiller

The singer continues to be busy. This month, Bryson Tiller’s single, “Persuasion,” came out as part of his upcoming eponymous album release. “Persuasion” features Monét singing with Tiller in a fun, flirty exchange. On X/Twitter, Monét captioned her tweet announcing the track with a fond thank you to Tiller. “I’ve been a big fan and I’m honored to have more music with you @brysontiller 😭🥹🤎”
