VIA, a Chinese R&B singer, songwriter, and producer, dissects her insecurities in-between extreme ecstasy on “Catch 22”. The intimate and twinkly single comes from her first EP, Hallucinating POV. Simply, it is about love… and the rollercoaster of highs and lows we feel navigating love– if that’s even simple. But as the first release of a dual EP concept, the rest of the story is left untold.
She tells MUNDANE Magazine, “So there’s a second EP that’s accommodating with this one to tell the whole story. After being in love, blinded by love, and struggling with what society, the twisted believing system other people are trying to put in my head. I can finally see what is real and what is just a hallucination. That’s when my awakening journey begins.”
Because of this creative and imaginative artistic rollout, bowed neatly with a surreal short film, Music Daily highlights VIA as today’s Music Discovery!
“So…Romance… Does perfect love exist? Or is it just in my head? Blinded by this beautiful yet deadly butterfly, it covers my eyes, my nose, my ears… I just want to drown in it.”
“Catch 22”
The single and the upcoming EP are true experiences for VIA, however there’s a bit of untruth that we always add. “This song is originally from my vulnerable personal experience and then I added a little imagination to the mix, which is the same way that I created my other songs in this upcoming EP1,” she tells VENT Magazine. “It’s kind of a hallucination but at the same time, I really want this to be real. It’s about the feeling of “having butterflies in your stomach” for someone. It’s insecure, craving for answers and it’s brand new and familiar at the same time.”
The Rhodes is on; the melodic trance between lush atmospheric vocals and trap beats. It harks back to Brandy on her 2022 Full Moon, but with a flare that is distinctively VIA.
