The Lemon Twigs Shine on “Any Time Of Day”

The Lemon Twigs are a Long Island rock duo consisting of Brian and Michael D’Addario. Coming from a background of various Broadway gigs as children, they excelled at music from the start. They are proficient in songwriting and playing a range of instruments. They have drawn influences from Broadway musicals and ‘20s and ‘30s musicians.

Even though the brothers established The Lemon Twigs in 2016, they were soon followed with success. After touring nonstop, they performed at multiple large-scale music festivals in 2017, such as Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, and Glastonbury. Throughout their career, the brothers have worked with other artists and have also been opening acts. They supported Arctic Monkeys on their 2018 tour. Additionally, The Lemon Twigs are credited for the instrumentals on a majority of the tracks on singer/songwriter Weyes Blood 2019 album Titanic Rising

As far as their sound, many well-known artists in the entertainment and music industry praise the band. These include Elton John, Iggy Pop, Finn Wolfhard, Questlove, Gerard Way, and Elijah Wood. “They’re so out of left field in their songs. They don’t have any rules in their songs and that’s sometimes the way it should be…” Elton John said about the band.

Their music is glam and indie rock. The Times in London mention that they are similar sonically to 70s bands Paul McCartney and Wings and Supertramp. However, member Brian says during a Reddit Q&A thread that he does not prefer to be compared to older musicians, “It’s a lazy way to write about music. And often times, completely inaccurate.” The band wants to form their own sound rather than being held back by comparisons.

“Any Time Of Day”

The Lemon Twigs released the single “Corner Of My Eye” at the beginning of this year. Now, they have paired the popular song with “Any Time Of Day,” ahead of their fourth full-length album Everything Harmony that will come out May 5th.

Before researching their sound, the duo was unknown to me. I enjoy this song regardless. I recommend them for anyone looking to find a new indie rock band with plenty of musical creativity and harmonious vocals. They have a fresh yet also nostalgic music style that anyone will appreciate. Listen to the two songs here!
