The History Of Record Store Day

As for every year since 2007, also Black Friday 2022, will have the honour to see the glorious return of The Record Store Day.

The Record Store Day

Like previous years, The Record Store Day announced the records that will appear in stores on Black Friday. Organizers released the specific list of the records pressed and sold on Nov 25, Black Friday 2022.

The list presents three different categories. Firstly, exclusives: the titles that are physically available only at indie record stores.
RSD first are the albums that are available first at indie record stores, but may release in other retailers or webstores at some point in the future. Finally, the small run/regional titles category includes titles that are either regionally based or are press runs under 1000. In both cases, the albums might be harder to find at record stores around the country.

However, there are three artists that will definitely be in stores. The Cure, Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish are only some of the multiple artists to have albums selling in indie stores this Black Friday.

A Gift To Music Lovers Since 2007

Record Store Day was born in 2007, when multiple independent record stores around the country were reunited to make their names resonate. The event aims to “celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores.” In other words, a number of records are pressed specifically for the event. These records belong to a list of sold records that vary in each participant country. The stores are located in both the US and Internationally as well. Official organizers turn the event into reality in the UK, Mexico, Europe, Japan and Australia.

The Record Store Day organizers discussed the origins of the event and the role of the RSD during Black Friday.

“Since its inception, Black Friday has turned the day after Thanksgiving into the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season.

“Traditionally, Black Friday has been about super-cheap prices on mass-produced goods and primarily takes place in malls and big box stores. But we really like the idea of a shopping season, especially when that shopping is all about, at its heart, a way to show the people you like that you like them. (And a way for them to show you, too. Gift-getting is also awesome!) So we created RSD Black Friday.”
