SZA’s New Single ‘Saturn’ Sounds Different

"Saturn" will appear on 'Lana,' the deluxe version of SZA's GRAMMY-winning sophomore album 'SOS.'

As SZA prepares to release the highly buzzed Lana project, the R&B star releases the hypnotic “Saturn,” a single originally teased during a MasterCard commercial at the 64th GRAMMY Awards. Watch the full commercial performance below!

The Top Dawg songstress was the most nominated artist at this year’s GRAMMY Awards, taking home Best R&B Song for “Snooze,” Best Progressive R&B Album for SOS, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Ghost in the Machine” with Phoebe Bridgers. Though, it was Bridgers who took home the most golden gramophones thanks to her involvement with Boygenius, chalking up four wins in total.

SZA’s surprise multi-track bundle centered around “Saturn,” features a live version of the song, instrumentals and an a cappella rendition. Though many fans noticed major arrangement changes on the chorus, the singer-songwriter purely addressed the strange mixing on X/Twitter. “No clue what’s wrong w the mixes on Saturn but all will be corrected shortly,” she said. “Thank you.”

Lana will serve as the “B-side” or deluxe edition of SZA’s 2022 GRAMMY-winning album, SOS. In December, SZA posted tasteful photoshoots which prematurely hyped fans.

“It’s outtakes [from SOS] and new stuff, too—I added a couple of songs. It’s like a whole new project,” she told Variety about the deluxe version of SOS. She continued, “It’s called Lana—my name but, it’s the first tattoo that I ever got, when I was 13. It was 10 bucks a letter and I only had 40, so that that became my nickname for no reason. Lana is really just the B-side of SOS.”
