Snoop Dog and Kelly Clarkson are set to host a new music competition series; set to premiere on March 21 on NBC.
The new show will be called “American Song Contest.” In case you haven’t guessed yet – yes, it takes inspiration from Eurovision Song Contest. Joining the American version of the European show will be some producers from the original. The same producers have also aided with “The Voice.”
American Song Contest Features Talent From All Over The Country
“American Song Contest” will feature live new music performances. Contestants representing all 50 states, five US territories, and our nation’s capital, compete to win the country’s vote for the best hit song. One artist, duo, or band will represent each location and perform a new original song. Multiple genres will also be showcased. The 56 performers will be revealed at a later date.
“I am honored to host American Song Contest alongside my lil sis Kelly Clarkson, aka Miss Texas,” Snoop Dog said. Kelly added, “I have been a fan and love the concept of Eurovision and am thrilled to bring the musical phenomenon to America. I’m so excited to work with Snoop and can’t wait to see every state and territory represented by artists singing their own songs.”
Making her excitement even clearer, Kelly spoke about the competition on The Kelly Clarkson Show after the news broke. Also, Kelly also said she’s excited that all parts of the U.S. will take part; saying, “We’re pretty divided as a nation. There’s a lot of shows out there that have competitions with singing or artists or whatever, and it’s really cool because the best song wins out.”
“American Song Contest” will premiere on Monday, March 21 from 8-10 pm ET/PT on NBCUniversal. The series will run for eight weeks on Monday nights with the Grand Final scheduled for May 9.
