Welcome to Music Daily’s Trending Tracks, where we highlight the artists and trends occupying the music industry’s attention. Some come out of the woodwork, others have endured a months-long crusade to greatness. Nonetheless, all of them are captivating the short-circuited minds of Gen-Z social media users.
This week is all about albums: from prepping for Charli XCX’s Brat release to fangirling over America’s sweethearts Sabrina Carpenter and Megan Thee Stallion as they are set to release summer projects.
Armageddon by Aespa
Aespa’s first studio album, Armageddon, ditches the K-pop trope of mini EPs with a thick experimental hip-hop production that Kanye West wishes he made. Choosing a favorite title track boils down to either preferring the poppy superhero-themed “Supernova” or dystopic analog “Armageddon.” However, both music video productions set an unprecedented production value that K-Pop will constantly try (and fail) to live up to for years to come.
Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter
Riding on the “Espresso” success wave, Sabrina Carpenter has another summer surprise in store for fans. Today, she announced her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, due August 23 via Island Records/UMG. Although much remains unknown, Sabrina Carpenter hints at something coming Thursday night (June 6.) Legend says the outro instrumental at the end of the “Espresso” music video is another soon-to-be-released single.
Brat by Charli XCX
Beyond Brat being her most prolific era to date, Charli XCX is bringing (her) music back to its fundamental core… gay clubs. From a string of “in your face” singles, to her It girl-studded “360” music video, and iconic Boiler Room set taking over an unmarked warehouse in Bushwick, all that’s left to fulfill the “PARTYGIRL” prophecy is to release the damn album. In September, the English singer-songwriter will embark on the joint “Sweat” arena tour with Troye Sivan.
Megan by Megan Thee Stallion
For being only 29 years old, Megan Thee Stallion has survived everything. Now, it’s her time to tell her story. After shedding her snake skin on January’s “Hiss” and dancing to the Gwen Stefani-sampled “BOA,” the Houston rapper is emerging anew on her forthcoming album, Megan, due June 28 via Hot Girl Records. The “Hot Girl In-Charge” made the formal announcement last night during her “Hot Girl Summer” tour stop in Atlanta. Coincidently, Camila Cabello will also release her highly anticipated album, C,XOXO, the same day.
