On October 26th, Rihanna took to social media to announce her upcoming single, “Lift Me Up,” for the upcoming movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, set to release November 11th.

After six long years, fans are ecstatic to see Rihanna make a come back.

Rihanna last dropped music in 2016 with her album Anti. The album features hits such as “Love On The Brain,” “Higher,” “Needed Me,” and more. This album is actually the first album by a black woman to spend 200 weeks on the Billboard 200. However, this isn’t the only big accomplishment Rihanna has made.

“Lift Me Up”

Importantly, “Life Me Up” is an emotional ballad in tribute to late actor Chadwick Boseman. After Boseman passed away in August of 2020, many people were distraught. Boseman was a very talented African American man who played very important figures in movies. In fact, he starred as characters such as James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall. Being one of the most influential black actors in today’s generation, his death hit people very hard.

To point out, Rihanna’s song sets an emotional tone for the movie, which is the first Black Panther movie since the death of Boseman. The movie plot follows the death of King T’Challa, better known as Black Panther, and the crowning of a new Black Panther.

By the somber tone of “Lift Me Up,” you can tell that the song is a tribute, and will most likely play during a tribute scene in the movie. The song has the continuous chorus, “Lift me up/hold me down/ keep me safe/safe and sound.” It features the sounds of piano and minimal string instruments.
