PinkPantheress Releases ‘Angel’ From ‘Barbie’ Soundtrack

This is the third single from "Barbie The Album" soundtrack out July 21.

Every demo and TikTok viral moment from PinkPantheress is one-upped by her bubbly Barbie soundtrack release, “Angel.” The movie soundtrack, Barbie The Album, is out July 21, featuring the previously-released Karol G number “Watati” with Aldo Ranks and Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night.” The Mark Ronson-executively-produced album features 17 artists, including Charli XCX, Lizzo, Nicki MinajFIFTY FIFTY, GAYLE, Ava Max, Khalid, and The Kid LAROI.

PinkPantheress is heaven-sent on “Angel,” a sweet BloodPop production with strings for hooks, an infectious beat and intentionally-autotuned vocals. “Everyone tells me life was hard, but it’s a piece of cake,” PinkPantheress sings in the chorus. “Even if Johnny hasn’t answered in a couple days, you won’t check your phone, so you can’t tell me you’re okay. Because Johnny, my baby, did it always have to end this way?”

The song’s message of sudden abandonment reflects the recent Barbie trailer, which unveiled the forthcoming movie’s plot. Margot Robbie’s Barbie snaps out of “perfect” life via a deeply existential crisis: “You guys ever think about dying?”

She ventures into the real world to discover “the truth” as her “perfect” life falls apart. Ryan Gosling’s Ken joins her journey initially as a kidnapper buffer but ultimately as Barbie’s ultimate sidekick.

The British star’s 2021 debut mixtape, To Hell With It, cracked the Top 20 in the U.K. But PinkPantheress’s Ice Spice collaboration hit, “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2,” put her on America’s Billboard Hot 100. Her enigmatic whispering and tantalizing pop tracks earned her the BBC Sound of 2022, won by Adele, Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding and others.
